Day 17
The Acropolis is impressive.
I could stop just right here. Two days later I'm still under the awe of the size of the monuments. It seems to me the Ancient Greeks built for magnificence, for exaltation, for inspiration, for eternity.
Beyond the size of the buildings, the quantity of quality material brought to the gigantic site, the level of detail carved in the humongous stones heaved up to 14 meters above the ground, there's also the setting of the site: a mountain between mountains and sea, levelled in order to develop the whole complex.
Also, it seems to me the restoration work that has been performed so far, allows the keen visitor to seize the past magnificence and grandeur of the site.
What is really left to the imagination is the daily life of the people on this site, and around the site to the sea.
I'll add some pictures later. They are on the camera.
