Day 18
THE National Archeological Museum of Athens
Let me start with the Jockey of Artemision, my very preferred piece of art so far.
This is the second time I see it.
It is smaller than the first imprint left in my memory, but it has not lost anything of its impression on me.
I invite you to read the article on Wikipedia. Really.
Without order of preference now.
Three bronze heads of a philosopher, a boxer, and a sculpture from the realist period.
Two political statements in the form of two statues and their photographies made of them some time in the period 1940-1941. Since we haven't found the way to protect lives, I fear that we will never be able to protect them once more.
Delicate frescoes...
Three Hermes.
Zeus and Poseidon. Beautiful.
Cycladic art. Two small musicians. Two big guys (human size). All of them over 5,000 years old.
There's plenty more.
I love this place.
We met my family in the evening. It was a perfect day.
