Another journey

Day 18

THE National Archeological Museum of Athens

Let me start with the Jockey of Artemision, my very preferred piece of art so far.
This is the second time I see it.
It is smaller than the first imprint left in my memory, but it has not lost anything of its impression on me. IMG_8379 IMG_8381 IMG_8380 I invite you to read the article on Wikipedia. Really.

Without order of preference now.

Three bronze heads of a philosopher, a boxer, and a sculpture from the realist period. IMG_8403 IMG_8401 IMG_8415

Two political statements in the form of two statues and their photographies made of them some time in the period 1940-1941. Since we haven't found the way to protect lives, I fear that we will never be able to protect them once more. IMG_8406 IMG_8407 IMG_8408 IMG_8411 IMG_8414

Delicate frescoes... IMG_8428 IMG_8430

Three Hermes. IMG_8436 IMG_8435 IMG_8433

Zeus and Poseidon. Beautiful. IMG_8423 IMG_8424 IMG_8419

Cycladic art. Two small musicians. Two big guys (human size). All of them over 5,000 years old. IMG_8387 IMG_8388 IMG_8391

There's plenty more.
I love this place.

We met my family in the evening. It was a perfect day.
