Days 8 and 9
We dipped in the Adriatic in a small town just before the border. The one lane narrow road to the beach was flanked by houses rented as holiday homes, and by hotels under construction or under full sail. As we went down the road we wondered how many more cars could be piled up in order to satisfy the parking requirements of these businesses. At the end of the road a small free public parking that must be eyed on by property developers.
That experience put a different perspective on the recent laws that flourished in the EU countries, that effectively ban vans to park for the night outside of camping grounds (or to risk heavy fines) for it comes with the hefty price charged by camping place for a one night stand: easily over 100 euros especially if that camping ground is located in front of the beach! So really these laws fall under the neoliberalism logic: making as much money as possible out of everything.
Then we crossed to Montenegro.
We are in the mountains, in the country side. Cows, sheep, and goats own the road.
We slept next to a monastery alongside a behemoth of camper van, owned by a couple from the Netherlands.
We met through a Workaway host, who was born in Sarajevo and moved to Canada during her adolescence. She recently came back to Europe and settled here in Montenegro.
Today I lended a hand to fix the lights of a 34 old VW Golf. Never bored!
